How to add Arturia SparkLE as midi controller for Superior Drummer 3 inside Studio One 4.6? As the title says, I want to use the Arturia SparkLE hardware controller in conjunction with Superior Drummer 3.

| Hi Guys, I have tried all sorts of drum plugins, all of them work fine, I can record, playback, mix-down in the Project Page etc. However, when I use Superior Drummer 3, I hear no drums at all when I go to do the mix-down in the Project.. When I open up the Project, I see the SD3 plugin being loaded, but I hear no drum sounds when it starts compiling the file! Any ideas? |
| philangus wroteHi Guys, FWIW, I use Superior Drummer 3 (and Addictive Drums) in Studio One 4 with no issues. I'm confused with ' I can record, playback, mix-down in the Project Page etc.'. I'm assuming you mean the 'Song' page. The Project Page is for Mastering your 'mixed' songs, not for mixing. Also you statement '...when it starts compiling the file!' Not sure what you mean. Can you hear the drums in SD3 when you are in the 'Song' page? Using Superior Drummer 3 With Studio One 4
| Sorry, yes I will stop burbling !! When I am editing my song, I hear SD3 sounds fine. So if I play from my Roland TD15 drums I hear them triggered on the instrument track with the SD3 plugin loaded. If I record the track, when I play the song I hear the SD3 playback. When I save the song and go to the Project page containing all my tracks, I then go to import the file and choose the song that uses the SD3 drums to import. It then imports the file and as soon as it does that, it starts the playback of the file in real time (I have mine set to compile in real time) to create the import. As soon as it starts playing I can hear the complete lack of any drums, so I simply cancel it and go back to scratching my head! If I use any other drum plugin I don't get this issue. All my other songs were recorded using the TD15's own sounds, the Steve Slate free drums or a couple of other freebies. I also tried a demo of a couple and then opted to purchase SD3 which I only got yesterday. I checked the main stereo channels in the Studio One mixer for the SD3 are turned up and not muted (well it must be the case otherwise I wouldn't hear it!). have you tried importing a song containing SD3 in to a Project? Thanks for your reply |

| I've had this happen before and have posted about it. It seems to occur when the project tries to update more than one song in the same instance of updating. I don't always lose the drums entirely, sometimes it just random parts of the SD3 kit that disappear. I therefore only try to update one song at a time (i.e. only click on one instance of the red update icon) then the missing SD3 kit/parts anomaly does not manifest itself - everything seems to function correctly. As to why this should occur - beats me! (Pun intendedl... Regards Windows 10 Pro/i7 6800k @3.4Ghz/16Gb ram. | I tried adding a song with SD3 to a project (Album) that I'm working on. When working with SD3 I always make a separate track for each kit piece and transform each track to audio, since I like to use my own effects processing. For giggles I added this song to the project without first converting the drums to audio since I didn't know how SD3 would work in this case. As you would expect, any sounds that make it to the main outputs comprise the stereo file that is added to the Project page, but I wanted to double check. If when you're mixing a song with SD3 and the drums sound ok in the sound page, they should get transferred to the project page. Don't have a clue why it's not working for you. I think he means when he imports song data from that song/ recording, into a new song etc. Apologise if I'm incorrect in my thinking. | Yes, sorry, you have misunderstood musicchamber! I have got a little further with this. This is what I have noticed: 1) I create a brand new blank Project. I then go to import file and choose the song with the SD3 drum tracks (all still midi tracks). It works! The drums are heard as the song is compiled. I am compiling in real-time, that's why I hear the song in real-time as it is compiling, and hence why I know there is something wrong in the other Project. 2) If I open my original project containing all my other tracks, I then import the file for the song with SD3. It starts to compile (and play), I hear no drums, so I simply click on cancel. This leaves the song inserted, but blank. (I can't remember at this moment whether I then saved the project, closed it then re-opened it first before doing the next bit), but if I then click on the red wrench against the song because it knows it still needs updating, the song starts to compile and play in real time and I DO hear the drums! 3) If I am in the song, and I select the Project tab on the top right hand side and go to the project from there it also seems to work. This is not the way I had worked previously, I always saved the song, closed it then opened the project, and if it is a new song not yet already in the project I then imported the file which is where this whole issue started from. If I edit the song in question, save it then open the project, it updates and I do still hear the SD3 drums. So in a nutshell, I have found a working solution, and going forward it may not be an issue. there is obviously a bit of a bug here but I don't think it's a serious one and I don't think it's one that I should be bothering about! It may just be something very specific about my particular existing project. I am also going to take a wild guess here that if I had done a transform to audio on the drums tracks it would work in my original project after a simple file import. Thanks to everyone who has replied |
| Just for troubleshooting.... After import - if you open the SD3 interface and click with mouse on various kit parts - any sound? Then with keyboard through midi input or similar - any sound - anything on meters? Thinking if any import do things like a CC7 volume down or similar. *** Windows 7 Pro * i7-860 2.8 Ghz 16 GB ram * RME HDSP 9632+AI4S+Audient ASP 800 * GT730 *** |
| Philangus said.... 'I am also going to take a wild guess here that if I had done a transform to audio on the drums tracks it would work in my original project after a simple file import.' Yes - I think you could be on to something here. I use SD3 with all mixing and midi patterns kept inside of the Vsti and just the stereo output, following the host, to an instrument track in S1. Perhaps it's the lack of any midi information on the track that S1 is misinterpreting, for whatever reason, when updating 'multiple tracks' (via the red wrench) in Project mode, hence the drums are missing from the updated songs - this is repeatable, not a one-off occurrence! I'll do some checks to confirm, or not as the case may be, but it'll likely be after Xmas now - happy holiday all... Windows 10 Pro/i7 6800k @3.4Ghz/16Gb ram.
